Fiesta in San Antonio dates back to 1891, when citizens decided to honor the heroes of the Alamo and Battle of San Jacinto with a Battle of Flowers. A festive parade marched through the streets and participants threw flowers at one another. Today this parade has the distinction of being the second largest parade in the country, and is the only parade organized completely by women.

Of course, fiesta encompasses more than just a parade - so much food, culture, and tradition have taken root at fiesta. The celebration has happened every year with very few exceptions in San Antonio.
