The bird of prey prefers living in open landscapes, on cliffs or in gorges. It has reddish brown plumage, gray-black wings, and an almost featherless neck with a ring of white down around it. Vultures are particularly important to the ecosystem. They eat dead animals that could otherwise spread disease.
